On 22 July 2026, an educational lecture was held at the Hellenic Air Force Academy as part of the SecAwarenessTruss project. The session focused on cybersecurity awareness and resilience, with particular attention to the challenges faced by the defence sector.
The lecture took place at the “Flight Lieutenant (P) Nikolaos Sialmas” Amphitheatre and was delivered by Dr Michalis Smyrlis, Technical Coordinator of SecAwarenessTruss. It was attended by cadets from all years of study, as well as Academy officers, teaching staff and representatives of organisations participating in the project consortium.
During the session, participants were introduced to the current cyber threat landscape and discussed topics including social engineering, phishing attacks, basic cybersecurity practices, Operational Security (OPSEC) and the protection of sensitive information.
The programme also included an interactive demonstration in a controlled cyber range environment. This gave participants the opportunity to see how realistic cyber threat scenarios can unfold and to better understand the role of individual behaviour in preventing and responding to cyber incidents.
The lecture concluded with an open discussion and an exchange of views on the importance of the human factor in cyber defence. The event also demonstrated the value of practical, sector-specific training in strengthening cybersecurity awareness and preparedness within the defence community.
